Provide First Aid in Remote Situations

​​Gain the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response and emergency life support to a casualty in a remote and/or isolated situation.

This course is ideal for those who may be required to prepare for and provide a first aid response in locations beyond the reach of timely medical assistance. The course provides you with various skills specific to working in remote situations such as monitoring casualties over an extended period of time, administering medication under direct medical directions and evaluating possible options for a medical evacuation.

Provide first aid in remote situations is competency based training. After successful completion of the programme you will be awarded a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID005 Provide First Aid in Remote Situations.

Course Objectives

​The objectives of this training is to provide students with the practical skills and knowledge to:

  • ​Prepare for isolated travel or work
  • Patient Assessment
  • Evaluate options for medical evacuation
  • Provide remote area emergency first aid
  • Improvise procedures for remote area
  • Monitor casualty over extended period of time
  • ​Provide shelter for the casualty
  • Establish communication links
  • Administer medications under direct

  • Evaluate management for a remote area emergency

Elective Units

​Elective units are not applicable for this course.

Entry Requirements

​Students must hold a current First Aid Certificate.
Students must be physically fit to be able to demonstration CPR skills on the floor.

Credit for skills and past study

Wilson Medic One mutually recognises Statement(s) of Attainment and qualifications issued by other RTO's.

Certification

Following the successful completion of the program a Statement of Attainment will be issued
